Bright & Breezy - Appliqué

Appliqué is one of my favourite decorative sewing techniques - purely because it is so simple! The Bondaweb paper is a great tool, it essentially turns fabric into stickers.

I always trace my designs onto the paper side of the Bondaweb but I tend to squish them together so I make take up the least space possible - you can trace them exactly as the design is laid out but then you're often left with scraps of unusable Bondaweb

I had decided to use the quilt as you go method mentioned in the pattern for my background. But then for some reason I cut all my pieces the same size & started fussing about my placing so I ended up patchworking my squares together!

I have quite a few fancy stitches on my machine including including these curved stitches - which in my mind looked like clouds but in reality came out more like waves... ButI likes them anyway

When I do quilting I tend not to draw lines - but I know quite a few people prefer to use an air or heat erasable pen to ensure their lines are equidistant. As this stitch had curves in it I lined the left hand edge of the foot up with the top of the previous lines curves which gave me a nice distance between stitches.

I love the Bondaweb paper because before you remove the paper backing you can play around with your pieces to get them positioned. There is a guide in the pattern for lying the pieces out as well

I really like using a blanket stitch for my appliqué - I think it makes it look quite handmade! I drove myself mad by wanting to use the right colour for each piece but overall I really like the finished piece!

Now if you know me you know binding is my official least favourite thing so I haven't done that bit yet but once I'll do I'll pop a photo in the gallery!
