Box 1 - Materials & Hardware

Before you receive your box the best place to check out the supplies list for ByAnnie patterns is their website - they provide great images and videos & clear supply lists. Click the images below to go to the website page.

ByAnnie is an American brand & they have created their own range of hardware & haberdashery. It is available from a couple of UK retailers and there are also equivalents which we'll discuss below.

Please Note: At the time of writing, I haven't made my samples yet. I will come back to update the post once I have!

Fabric - for both patterns we recommend quilting cotton. Do pop into the shop to browse our fat quarter selection!

Catch All Caddy

What's in the box:

  • Pattern

  • 0.5m Vlieseline Style-Vil Foam

  • 0.75m Vilene Interfacing Iron On Interfacing - F 220 / 304, medium weight

What you'll need:

  • Fabric

    • The pattern recommends 3 fabrics - one for the outer, one for inner & one for accents. In the above image the cream fabric is the outer, blue is accents (binding, handles etc) and the inner is pink.

    • There is nothing stopping you using more or less fabric - I think the caddy would look fab in one colour!

    • You need 1m of each fabric, but if your fabric is directional (i.e needs to be the right way up for the print to make sense) you may want to buy a little extra.

  • Zip

    • The pattern recommends a 9" or longer zip

    • We tend to use continuous zips which you can cut to size as they are more affordable & there's less wastage

    • We'll update after sewing to let you know if you can skip the zip pocket

  • Strapping

    • 1.5" wide, you need 1.5m

    • This goes inside your handle - ByAnnie has their own version which in the Uk you can buy from www.lovelyjubblyfabrics.co.uk

  • Rectangular Rings

    • You need four 1.5" rectangular rings

    • Again ByAnnie have their own which LovelyJubbly also stock

  • Base Stabiliser

    • Measuring 5.75" x 12"

    • Again, ByAnnie stock these - but I haven't found an online retailer who has the specific size for this pattern & they're also quite expensive

    • You can get acrylic bag bases from Amazon that are roughly the right size - I'll update this once I get mine

I ended up getting both my strapping & rings from Sewhot.co.uk -- they had a good selection & you buy the exact amount of strap too

Project Bags

What's in the box:

  • Pattern

  • 0.5m Vlieseline Style-Vil Foam (~20"x29")

  • 0.5m Vilene Interfacing Iron On Interfacing - F 220 / 304, medium weight (~20"x36")

There are four different sizes for the project bag - there is enough haberdashery in your box to make 1 jumbo or 1 large or 1 Medium & 1 Small. Extra haberdashery will be available in store (& online soon)

What you'll need:

  • Fabric

    • The pattern recommends 3+ fabrics - one for the outer, one for inner & one for accents. For the larger 3 bags you can also use scraps or extra fabric to make a contrasting border

    • You need 1 Fat Quarter of each fabric, per bag

  • Vinyl

    • This is for the transparent window in the front of the bag

    • ByAnnie again stock their own vinyl - I decided to buy theirs, I'm sure there are cheaper options but I couldn't find any plain clear from retailers I use and as I've not used it before I thought the ByAnnie one was the safer bet.

    • You can get this from both LovelyJubbly & SewHot but both were out of stock so I got mine from ohsewsweetshop.co.uk

    • It comes in 3 sizes - 16x54" is enough to make all four sizes but I bought 10x54" as I'm just planning to make medium bags. You can also get a full yard but its cut in half for easier postage

  • Zip

    • The pattern recommends a 12"/14.5"/15.5"/18" or longer zip

    • Definitely worth getting continuous zips as you'll get multiple bags made with just 1m of zipper tape
