Sew a Mini Backpack
Learn to sew your own backpack
Details
Backpacks are a great accessory & really fun to sew and customise! In this workshop we will be making the Mini sized Making Backpack from Noodlehead. This is a simple looking backpack but has a number of different options allowing you to customise to your own needs & style. We will be making the mini size but details of the larger size are included in the pattern. Approximate size is: 8” wide x 10½” tall x 4½” deep (20 cm x 27 cm x 11.5 cm) This course is designed for those with basic machine skills - knowing how to set up, thread and sew straight seams. Basic experience with sewing a zip is useful but not essential. During the workshop we will learn: - How to read the pattern and cut our pieces - Sew a variety of pockets, including an inside welt pocket & front slip pocket or hidden zip pocket* - Sew the gusset & straps - Construct the final bag What's Included - Making Backpack Pattern - Hardware (zips, interfacing, rings & sliders)* *Please note if you want to make the additional front zip pocket there is an additional charge of £4 for extra zips & pulls. We only recommend this pocket for experienced sewers - it is not complicated to do but does require extra time to complete. What you will need - Outer Fabric: Cotton Canvas - Lining Fabric: Quilting Cotton - Straps: Cotton or poly webbing, 1.5" wide (2.2m for either size) - Handles, Tabs etc: Cotton or poly webbing, 1" wide (1.5m for either size) - Binding: 12 mm wide double fold binding (Regular 3.2 m, Mini 2.2m)~ - You may wish to get a thread which matches or co-ordinates with your fabric (many fabric retailers offer a thread matching service) We recommend getting 1m of each fabric (particularly for directional fabric - you will have plenty of extra)
