Service Description

Quilting and patchwork are fantastic sewing skills which can be used, not just for blankets but for pillow cases, table runners, bags and even clothes. Quilting Dictionary Blocks - a set of smaller pieces sewn together in one unit which are then combined to make the quilt Wadding/Batting - filling for your quilt, often polyester, bamboo, wotton, wool or a mixture. Wadding comes in different thickness and sizes. Quilting - Sewing decorative stitches to bind together the layers of the quilt For this course we will be using the Polychromatic pattern from Elizabeth Hartman - which contains instructions for the rainbow block pattern which you can then use to create a pillow case & small or large quilt. We'll be making the pillow case in this workshop but you will go away with the skills for all the options. This course is designed for those with basic machine skills - knowing how to set up, thread and sew straight seams. During the workshop we will learn: - How to read the pattern and cut our pieces - Sewing together the rainbow block - Construction the pillow case back pieces - Attaching the batting with quilting stitches - Constructing the pillowcase What's Included - Polychromatic Pattern - Batting - All equipment, threads etc What you will need - Rainbow: 4 Fat Quarters (precise measurements below if you want to use scraps) - Background Fabric: 0.5m* - Backing Fabric: 1m* - Muslin/Lightweight cotton: 1m^ - You may wish to get a thread which matches or co-ordinates with your fabric for quilting. *These can be the same fabrics (total needed 1.5m) ^This is to line the inside of the pillowcase so won't be seen Precise Rainbow Measurements Fabric 1 = 5-1/2” wide x 9-1/2” tall Fabric 2 = 6-1/2” wide x 11-1/2” tall Fabric 3 = 9” wide x 13-1/2” tall Fabric 4 = 12” wide x 16-1/2” tall. Fabric 1 is the innermost arc, Fabric 4 is the outermost arc.

Cancellation Policy

Booking - Payments must be received in full or in part when booking online. Any remaining payment must be paid by bank transfer before the course/workshop start date. Cancellations These must be received at least two weeks before the workshop starts to receive a full refund. Payment cannot be refunded if places are cancelled later that this date. Young Creatives & After School Clubs ​​If you cancel your place 14 days prior to the programme start date (e.g. by the first date of the block) you will receive a full refund. If you cancel your place 7 days prior to the programme start date (e.g. by the first date of the block) you will receive a 60% refund as by this time we are likely to have purchased materials. We will not be able to refund cancellations received later than 7 days prior to the programme start date.
