MHA Week - CRAFT & CAKE
Celebrating our Crafting Community for Mental Health Awareness Week
Details
From the Mental Health Foundation: "Since 2001, the Mental Health Foundation has been leading Mental Health Awareness Week - bringing the UK together to focus on getting good mental health. This year, the week takes place from 12 to 18 May 2025 and the theme is 'community'...Being part of a safe, positive community is vital for our mental health and wellbeing. We thrive when we have strong connections with other people and supportive communities that remind us, we are not alone. Communities can provide a sense of belonging, safety, support in hard times, and give us a sense of purpose. " If there is one thing I have learnt about since starting Learn & Create it is that the Crafting Community is AMAZING! It's supportive, kind, open & friendly. And that is the ethos behind all our social sessions. It doesn't matter if you are a beginner or an expert, you are always welcome & there is always someone around to help or answer questions. And we all know how crafts have a huge impact on mental health - they distract our busy minds, give us a creative outlet & reduce stress and anxiety. So this Mental Health Awareness Week we are running a number of daytime & evening social sessions - CRAFT & CAKE (because our socials always involve both...) Each one will have a theme - a simple craft that you can join in with or bring your own version to work on. Monday 12th May, 7-8.30pm: CALs KALs & MALs Find out all about what a Crochet/Knit/Make Along involves, & what you will need to join in with out Geddy Tee Make Along. Bring your knitting, crochet or sewing to work on while we chat about this fun social way of working on a project Wednesday 14th May, 2-3.30pm: Blanket Squares We have a huge pile of knitted squares that we want to sew into blankets to donate & sell this winter to help people struggling with fuel prices. Join us to crochet or sew them together Friday 16th May, 7-8.30pm: Embroidery on Anything Grab a bag, jumper, jeans, canvas shoes - anything you fancy and have fun learning how to make them unique with embroidery Sunday 18th May, 1-2.30: Family Crafting Drop in and try bargello - a fun tapestry technique which is fun & simple. Make a bookmark, necklace or wall hanging. Ideal for ages 4+ (all children will need supervision) All the above sessions are free! Donations towards materials or refreshments can be made on the day Donations to the Mental Health Foundation can be made here https://www.mentalhealth.org.uk/get-involved/ways-dona
