Our Young Creatives programme is all about letting young people explore and develop creative skills! Beginners is the first stage of our sewing programme and is all about mastering the basics of machine set up (threading, bobbin winding) and basic functions (straight seams, using guides) The aim of Beginners is to learn how to use the machine and sew well with it - by working on small simple projects students can start to understand how the sewing process works and how to hone their skills and use good practices when sewing. In the first session of a new term everyone makes an unlined tote bag (plain colour, pre-cut), to cover the machine basics and to give them something to carry their work in. Students can then choose from a selection of small projects, including scrunchies, key chains, bookmarks, face wipes, coasters, mini wallets, mini drawstring bags, etc. After completing a project tutors will assess the work & provide students with feedback - with the aim to encourage independence (e.g. threading up the machine themselves), neat sewing and good practices (e.g. cutting all loose threads on finished projects) Winter Term Dates 27th October - 15th December, 3.30-4.30pm (no class 3rd or 24th November, 6 sessions) Cost includes a fat quarter pack, tote bag fabric & all haberdashery. Please select colour for Tote bag when booking - see images for colour choices (please note, returning students do not need to make the tote bag again)
