Service Description
Quilting and patchwork are fantastic sewing skills which can be used, not just for blankets but for pillow cases, table runners, bags and even clothes. For this course we will be using the free Ultimate Beginners Quilt pattern from Fat Quarter Shop. Quilting Dictionary Blocks - a set of smaller pieces sewn together in one unit which are then combined to make the quilt Quilt Top - the top layer of the quilt Wadding/Batting - filling for your quilt, often polyester, bamboo, wotton, wool or a mixture. Wadding comes in different thickness and sizes. Backing - Bottom layer of the quilt Binding - Fabric used to finish the edge of the quilt Quilting - Sewing decorative stitches to bind together the layers of the quilt The quilt consists on 9 seperate blocks (starting with simple rectangles and squares, then moving on to triangles and then combining the two for more detailed blocks. Throughout the course we will construct the blocks (Weeks 1-6) then sew them together in one quilt top (Weeks 7). We will provide print outs for each block Quilts are a large project and to complete you often need to spread out on a bed or floor. Due to this we will not be putting the quilt together in the class. We will however use scraps to sew a quilted coaster or placement - this will cover: - Adding the wadding & backing - Quilting - Adding Binding You will then have the opportunity to join us at our Crafternoons, book workspace/machines in your own time or complete your quilt at home. WHAT YOU NEED 12 fat quarters (for the bocks). We recommend buying a fat quarter pack (as this will ensure all the materials correspond) or choosing solid colours. 1m plain cotton fabric (for the fabric between the blocks) 1m plain cotton fabric (for the fabric around the edge) We will also provide details of wadding & backing supplies as well as recommendations for where to buy.
Cancellation Policy
Booking - Payments must be received in full or in part when booking online. Any remaining payment must be paid by bank transfer before the course/workshop start date. Festive Friends Discount - Eligible only on Winter 2023 Festive Workshops - Participants must book together (select 2 participants when booking) Cancellations These must be received at least two weeks before the workshop starts to receive a full refund. Payment cannot be refunded if places are cancelled later that this date. Young Creatives & After School Clubs ​​If you cancel your place 14 days prior to the programme start date (e.g. by the first date of the block) you will receive a full refund. If you cancel your place 7 days prior to the programme start date (e.g. by the first date of the block) you will receive a 60% refund as by this time we are likely to have purchased materials. We will not be able to refund cancellations received later than 7 days prior to the programme start date.
